Hello! I'm Shezan.
I recently graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with degrees in journalism and radio-television-film in the Moody College of Communication honors program. I am from Calgary, Canada but have been playing soccer and living away from home since I was 14. I love spending time in the outdoors, playing sports, reading, and going to concerts!
Storytelling comes down to one thing for me: an obsession with discovering the stories behind people and places, and then building community and connection through those stories. I love talking to people and learning about the stories that make up their history. Film is the most immersive and personal medium to connect viewers to people's stories and build a sense of community, and I believe nonfiction video storytelling is the form of media with the greatest power to change, influence, and move others.
Currently, I am working as an associate producer and researcher on an upcoming social justice documentary supported by POV on PBS and Doc Society. I am also a digital communications intern at OKAKI Health Intelligence. I have past experience in multimedia journalism, video producing and editing, data journalism, VFX work, and advertising.
I am currently looking for in-person or remote work in the UK and Canada. I would love to chat about opportunities in content producing, documentary production, video journalism, data journalism, health communications, or anything in between!
